The Visual Church Year
These worship note inserts and children’s bulletins are being created to follow the suggested readings of the Three-Year Lectionary (Series A,B,C) used by the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod and are meant to help adults and children better remember God’s spoken Word in worship and facilitate family faith conversations and life application throughout the week:
The half-sheet Worship Notes "gives permission” and provides space to all worshipers for personal notes or drawings, and includes a hand-drawn image relating to the words or theme of the gospel reading - to color as a bookmark or attach/trace in a journal or journaling Bible.
Worship Notes For Kids may be copied back to back to create a folded, four-page booklet meant to encourage worship participation for children of multiple ages, with a focus on engagement rather than busy work. Besides images to color, children are challenged to listen for and tally words from the readings, record prayer thoughts or questions, and record observations or favorite songs. There might even be a reminder to greet people or bring a friend! ☺
With the suggested lectionary readings, they may not always fall in line with major events of the church year for which dates vary from year to year, such as Palm Sunday or Easter. In these cases, there will be a folder at the end marked Optional Special Occasion Resources with appropriate substitutions.
We also intend these resources to be a blessing to people of all Christian denominations, and recognize that these are only suggested readings and that not all churches follow a lectionary. For your convenience, the margin art will be shared, five to a page, under Bible Journaling in our Resource section.
