The Lord God inspires our worship because He cares deeply about the details of our lives, inviting us to tell Him all about our struggles. Nearly a third of the Psalms are prayers of lament; these prayers are honest and raw, containing words of anger, confusion, and hopelessness. Psalms of lament often voice questions of the heart, such as:
-
How long, Lord?
-
Where are you, God?
-
Why me?
-
Why not me?
-
Are you listening, Father?
-
What is Your plan for my pain?
We can approach God with life’s disappointments in exactly the same way. VFM suggests a visual-kinesthetic prayer of lament; see the Shoppe for resources.
